Why isnt my internet and programs working?

Ive had my laptop for like 6 months now, ive had skype and installed google chrome onto my laptop intead of internet explorer. well ater not using it for a while, i went on skype, and it worked perfectly yesterday. Same with google chrome. Well now google chrome and skype doesnt work. when i click on google chrome, it says "this page is temporarily unavailable" and when i go to skype to try and sign in, it doesnt. i dont know whats wrong with my computer. ive deleted the history, cookies, etc. and i dont know what to do. I'll do a scan on my computer for any viruses, but i have a hunch its not going to work. What am i going to do! i have family overseas and i talk to them on skype. Its just really annoying that i cant talk to them now :( please help me :(
