Should i ask to audition for them?

i put a Craig's list add in for a rhythm guitarist a guy replays and leaves recordings of his band that is Only him and a drummer they turn out to be way better musicians than i am currently working with they fit my influences and skill level better but if i ask i am afraid that i might come off as flaky. and untrustworthy.
