Dating my friends ex hookup?

I have 3 friends whom i used to be very close with- a guy and a girl...I developed feelings for the guy last year but avoided them because of the distance. About 6 months ago, my girl friend hooked up with the guy- it was pretty random, only lasted a few weeks- she claims he was so mean to her and hated him. (even though I know he wasnt) Well, about a month ago, i hung out with the guy one on one, and have come to realize i have strong feelings for him- and he wants to date. So I emailed her my feelings and basically said that I have feelings for the guy she hooked up with and have tried to avoid them and i am telling you because I dont want to hide it from you and I hope this doesnt affect our friendship, etc...and she basically calls me untrustworthy, a *****, no character ex friend, and deletes me. I repeatedly tried to apologized, saying I hope we can talk this out. She responds by saying I'm done with both of you and dont contact me, we are not friends. Is what I did really so horrible? i was honest with my feelings, and they never even dated- it was a hookup that was over 6 months ago. Am I wrong here? Did i do the right thing?
